Dr. Vivek P. Kushwaha, Orthopaedic Surgeon Specializing in Adult Lumbar and Cervical Disorders & Spine Trauma. Dr. Kushwaha is originally from San Antonio and joined Orthopaedic Associates in 1997. He is married, with three children. Dr. Kushwaha enjoys tennis, skiing, and golf.

Dr. Kushwaha specializes in adult degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine. In 1987, Dr. Vivek Kushwaha received his B.A. from University of Texas – Austin. In 1991, he received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. In 1996, he completed his orthopaedic internship and residency at the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Kushwaha completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, CA. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Kushwaha is on staff at Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital and St. Joseph Medical Center. He has been the Chief of Spine Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School and Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is a major component of the teaching program at the UT medical students, residents and fellows. He has won several awards for clinical care, surgical skill, research and teaching over the last several years.
Dr. Kushwaha is on the clinical faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School. He is Co-Director of the Spine Fellowship and helps shape the teaching program for spine surgery for the residents and fellows. Dr. Kushwaha has extensive experience in complicated spine surgery, including revision surgery and the latest techniques in kyphoplasty, disk replacement, and microdiskectomy as well as minimally invasive spinal instrumentation and fusion.
Dr. Vivek Kushwaha is a member of numerous medical societies and has authored many articles in his fields of interest. He has presented his research at many regional and national scientific meetings, as well as served as faculty for numerous courses.
Dr. Kushwaha was the first surgeon in Houston to perform the kyphoplasty procedure, as well as the first surgeon to perform the lumbar artificial disk replacement. As a result of his pioneering work and clinical expertise Dr. Kushwaha is sought after by the medical industry for his knowledge as a consultant. Dr. Kushwaha acts as a consultant for various companies including Medtronics, Synthes Spine, SeaSpine, and Spine Frontier. He also has shareholder interest in Allez Spine and Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital.
